Episode 100

Launch date: Mike Murphy Unplugged went live on iTunes Friday, September 25, 2015. Why it started: simply to help figure things out personally, and to create an outlet for teaching and sharing the topics worth learning about. Teaching and documenting the process of building an online business and brand was always going to help find a real voice while inspiring anyone else trying to do the same — a genuine win-win.

Schedule: every Friday at 12:15am, with the newsletter following at 6:00am.

Side tip: show up. Listeners build a podcast into their routine — honor that.

Favorite Episodes

  • Episode 1: About Mike — worked hard on it and it turned out well.
  • Episode 17, 18 & 70 — the Roadmap Shows, which forced real thinking about business and goals.
  • Episode 56: The Adobe Audition Show — mostly because Durin Gleaves, the head of Audition at Adobe, emailed to say the whole team listened.
  • Episodes 57 & 58 — the Audio 101 Shows, which simplified audio terminology for anyone too embarrassed to ask the basics.
  • The mobile podcasting shows (48, 50, 52) — recorded from a nude beach under the Golden Gate Bridge, a Naples beach, and the Everglades. Pure fun pushing gear and tech to its limits, and hopefully motivating for anyone intimidated by mobile recording.
  • Episode 94: The Dead Show — just a genuinely happy one to make.

Least Favorite: Hardware-Heavy Episodes

Most Downloaded Episode

Episode 83: The Personal Brand Show (Part 2) — the only episode to break 1,000 downloads.

What Mike Loves About Podcasting

Figuring out the gear was genuinely fun — having the equipment to basically run an internet radio show from a bedroom never got old. Beyond the tech, the act of building a meaningful body of work matters most: the podcast functions as a journal and portfolio at once, and the built-in accountability of showing up weekly has made for real discipline. Since episode 1, at least one piece of content has been created and uploaded every single day, without exception.

What Mike Doesn’t Love About Podcasting

Writing the script every week, by a wide margin. Plenty of people in podcasting are anti-script — that’s fine, but it hasn’t changed the approach here. Do your own thing, always.

Lessons Learned From Podcasting

Podcasting hasn’t made Mike rich in money, but rich in knowledge and skill — audio, video, tech, design, creativity, business. It’s sharpened communication, teaching, and writing. It’s built real confidence and self-awareness. And it’s led to genuine connections, including a small group of supporters who’ve been there since day one — deeply appreciated.

What’s Next for Mike Murphy Unplugged

More of the same: sharing the journey and the process while making a dent in the universe. Episodes may get shorter or less dense over time, but the format is still being refined.

Conclusion

Thank you for being part of this milestone — here’s to the next 100.
