What Does "Open Weights" Mean?

An open-weights AI model is one whose finished, trained model file is released for anyone to download and run on their own hardware. Meta’s Llama and Mistral’s models are examples. It’s not the same as open source: you usually get the model itself, but not the training data or the full recipe used to build it.
