Ask Mike Anything: 16:9 vs. 1080p
Question: What’s the difference between 16:9 and 1080p for video?
Answer: There isn’t one, really — they measure different things. 16:9 is the aspect ratio for wide-format video (16 wide, 9 tall). 1080p refers to resolution, widely known as full HD — 1920x1080 pixels. For comparison, 720p (standard HD) is 1280x720 pixels, and 4K (the successor to 1080p) is 3840x2160 pixels.
Correct upload size for YouTube: 1920x1080 pixels at 1080p, aspect ratio 16:9.
